What does winter smell like? I am not speaking of burning firewood and broths simmering for hours. Nor do I refer to the odour of carpet-covered floors, virgin wool socks and tiles glazed with steam after a hot bath. This is the smell of all our efforts to keep winter at bay. So what sort of smell does winter have, if any?
We need the winter. The cold kills parasites, helps to eliminate plagues and keeps insects under control. The plants take a break, the land is regenerated and, when it snows, animals become easy prey for their predators. There’s something spongy and warm in the winter. It is something intimately originating. It is feminine. The beginning is winter. And its smell makes me feel safe, now I understand this. For Bravanariz, winter smells like BOSC.
